GED® & Pre-College Education Information
GED® Classes
The purpose of GED® classes is to help students improve skills in reading, writing, and math at all levels. The CACC Adult Learning Program offers flexible class options with morning, afternoon, and evening schedules. Free tutoring is also available for one-on-one support. GED® classes are offered year-round and cover the following subject areas:

Free Practice & Testing Opportunities
Eligible students may receive free GED® Ready practice tests and vouchers for the official GED® exams. Students also have access to online GED® preparation tools to support their success.

What Is the GED® Exam?
The GED® credential is a set of tests that, when successfully completed, demonstrate high school-level academic skills. Earning your GED® is equivalent to a high school diploma and can qualify you for financial aid for college or career training programs.
The GED® test includes four subject areas:
Reasoning Through Language Arts
Mathematical Reasoning
Science
Social Studies
Students must be at least 16 years old to take the GED® exam.

Where Can I Take the GED® Test?
GED® testing is available:
At approved testing centers (we will help you find the closest location)
Online through GED.com (if you meet testing requirements)
Can I Take the Test if I Am Under 18?
Yes. Students who are 16 or 17 years old must obtain approval from their local school district before testing.
Our team can help guide you through this process.
How Long Does Each Test Take?
Each subject has a different time limit:
Reasoning Through Language Arts: 150 minutes
Mathematical Reasoning: 115 minutes
Science: 90 minutes
Social Studies: 70 minutes
How Much Does It Cost?
In Alabama, the GED® test is $36 per subject, for a total of $144.
However, students enrolled in the CACC Adult Learning Program may qualify for free testing vouchers by meeting attendance and program requirements.
Do I Have to Take All Tests at Once?
No. You can take one test at a time or multiple, depending on your schedule.
We recommend spacing them out and completing all sections within a year.
What Score Do I Need to Pass?
Each test is scored from 100 to 200.
Below Passing: 100–144
Passing: 145+
College Ready: 165+
College Ready + Credit: 175+
Are Practice Tests Available?
Yes.
Free practice questions are available at GED.com
GED Ready® practice tests are available for a small fee and predict your likelihood of passing
Students in our program can access practice tests and study support at no cost with instructor approval.

How Much Do Classes Cost?
All GED® and Pre-College classes are free to any student. All course materials are also provided free of charge.
Are There Online GED® Courses?
Yes! All of our courses are available live in-person, or live online via Zoom. Students can freely switch between in-person and online as best fits their schedule.
Can You Help Me Improve My College Entrance Exam Scores?
Yes. Pre-College classes are focused on reading, writing, and math—what most entrance exams test. Save time and money by boosting your placement scores to qualify for college-level classes.
When Can I Schedule my GED® Tests?
To check testing times and availability you will need to log in to your account on www.GED.com and click “schedule a test”. GED® and Pre-College Education staff do not schedule tests or have access to the test availability calendar.

Testing Center – CACC Adult Learning Program
The CACC Adult Learning Program offers testing services for students and community members.
We provide computer-based testing for the GED® exam along with select certification and licensing exams to support workforce and career advancement.
